Alexandros "Alex" Mantis Obituary (1924

Alexandros “Alex” Mantis, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Friday, December 8, 2017. Alexandros was born on June 24, 1924 in Logga, Greece to Penelope and Grigorios Mantis where he lived and worked as a photographer until he moved to Waukegan, IL in 1967. He was united in marriage to Panagiota Mantis on May 4, 1952. Alexandros was a proud employee of Abbott Laboratories and full of life. He could be found laughing, socializing, making wine, spending time with his family, and Greek dancing. His pride and love for his village of Logga, Greece was abundant in his life; he would visit often and tend to his vast olive groves. He will be dearly missed by his loving children Greg (Pam) Mantis, Popi (Angelo) Tzavaras, grandchildren Kosta (Betsy) Tzavaras, Alexi (Amy) Tzavaras, Lena (Paul) Rosenthal, Alexi Mantis and Daniel Mantis, great-grandchildren Penelope & Angelo Tzavaras and Olivia & Dean Rosenthal. Alexandros was preceded in death by his wife, Panagiota, his parents and 1 brother. Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2017 from 9:30-10:30 at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1400 N O’Plaine Road, Libertyville, IL, with Funeral services beginning at 10:30. Burial will immediately follow at New Gracancia Cemetery, 35240 N Grant Ave, Lake Villa, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Alex’s memory.
