Frederick Witte Obituary (2022)

On the morning of July 8, 2022, Frederick Wallace Witte Sr. of Wadsworth, IL passed away peacefully, at the age of 93. Fred was born to Wallace and Bessie Witte on May 4, 1929, in Waukegan, IL. He served in the Marines during the Korean war and was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts and a United Nations Korean Service 2 Star Medal. After returning from Korea on August 14, 1953, he married his lifelong love, Jane A. Lux, in 1955, and together they raised 7 children in Wadsworth. During his life, he owned Fred’s Diner in Gurnee at the SE corner of routes 21 and 41. Later he was employed as an associate lab supervisor at Underwriters Laboratories until he retired in 1991. After he retired he spent his time gardening, biking, taking care of “Fred’s Garage and Pool”, and he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his sister Dolores. 7 Children: 3 daughters: Elizabeth (Jeff) Muellemann, Margaret (Kevin) Breckenfeld, and Mary (Rick) Witte. 4 Sons: Fred “Fritz” (Linda), Scott (Lisa), Mike (Jo), and Patrick. 9 grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Sara, Eric, Jimmy, Shaun, Katie, Andrew, Kelsey. 9 Great Grandchildren David, Ty, Abigail, Avery, Finn, Barrett, Rohan, Florence, and Luke. Plus many nieces nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Ann Lux, 2 brothers Glenn and Ronald, and 1 grandchild. A family service will be held graveside on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Following the Family Service an Open House: Celebration of Life will be held in Fred’s Garage and Pool House from 2 pm to 6 pm, everyone is welcome.
