Harriet Hammel

Harriet Hammel, 87, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, IL.

She was born on January 14, 1928 in Waukegan, IL,, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna Zide. She married Phillip Hammel on February 14, 1954 in Waukegan and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2014.

Mrs. Hammel was a member of Temple B’rith Sholom in Springfield, IL and Congregation Am Echod in Lindenhurst, IL.

She is survived by two sons, Howard (wife Lori) Hammel of Springfield, and Kenneth (wife Sheryl) Hammel of Arlington Heights, IL and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily, Ashley, and Lindsey Hammel.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Seymour (wife Miriam) Zide, Paul (wife Lillian) Zide, and Evelyn (husband Melvin) Stein.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 10 am at Am Echod Cemetery in Waukegan, IL with Rabbi Michael Datz officiating.

Memorials may be made to Temple B’rith Sholom or the Jewish Federation of Springfield.
