Joe Slovnik

June 30, 1969 - September 24, 2021

Joel David Slovnik, a life-long resident of Waukegan, IL passed away peacefully Friday September 24, 2021 at the age of 52. Joe is survived by his mother, Jean Slovnik (nee Skokie); His sister Kristen (Kevin) Tuohy, his brother Frank (Nikki) Slovnik, and sister Amy (Jim) Gramer; and his nieces and nephews Dylan (Kiernan) Tuohy, Raquel Tuohy, Jacob and Abby Gramer, and Ashley, Cole and Mason Slovnik. He is predeceased by his father Frank Slovnik Jr. and his grandparents Alex and Jean Skokie and Frances Slovnik. Joe was born June 30, 1969, and grew up loving sports and cars. He was always outside playing some sort of game in the neighborhood as a kid. He later enjoyed playing on and managing the family softball team and was part of different championship teams. He also played on a family co-ed volleyball team, and loved getting into pickup basketball games whenever he could. He was an avid Chicago sports fan. He watched the Bulls and Bears, but love LOVE LOVED his Chicago Cubs. His interest in cars started with making Hot Wheels race tracks in the sandbox and it carried over into painting cars for a living. He looked forward to trips to “Indy” to see the drag races as a kid. He bought a ‘68 Chevelle convertible, brought it to life, and enjoyed caring for it and driving it around town whenever he could. Music was a big part of his life. He taught himself to play the drums and loved playing Rush. He always seemed to have a song playing or lyrics on his mind. Joe loved animals and had three cats over the years. He also loved and missed his dog, Holmes, and is finally reunited with him now.
