Michael Bruce McKillen

Mike McKillen passed away at his home in Waukegan on September 27. He was born at Victory hospital in Waukegan on April 21, 1961, the son of Patrick and Nancy (Bruce) McKillen. He graduated from St. Anastasia Grade School and Waukegan High School. He also attended Western Illinois University. A gifted athlete, Mike was a member of the football and wrestling teams at Waukegan High School. He later played in many area softball leagues. He was an avid sports fan and closely followed the Chicago Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs. Mike worked construction for many years, and also sometimes worked in sales and maintenance. He suffered a disabling stroke in his mid-forties, but he demonstrated resilience in continuing to enjoy life and in maintaining his sense of humor. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his brother Pat, his sister Beth and her husband Nathan, and his five nieces and nephews. His nephew Isaac will particularly remember his uncle for his willingness to take him on all of the biggest rides at Great America and for introducing him to fireworks! Mike was predeceased by his mother Nancy McKillen and father Patrick McKillen. His family wishes to especially thank his life-long friends from St. Anastasia for their support during his recent illness. They wish also to thank Sylvia Molina for the dedicated and skilled home nursing care she provided during the last several months.
