Raymond “Ray” Staskewich passed away Saturday at 94 years of age at Vista Medical Center. Ray was a coach and PE teacher at North Chicago at North School and Novak King for 32 years. Ray could not go anywhere in Waukegan or North Chicago without a former student stopping him to say hello to “Coach.” During the summer, he worked as a security guard at Abbotts. Ray was an alumni of Waukegan High School ’42 and DePaul University ’51 where he attended under the GI Bill. Ray was a Purple Heart veteran who served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church for 58 years. He is survived by his wife Carol of 68 years, his daughter Joyce Meuth and son Robert, 4 grandchildren: twins Carol and Heidi Meuth and Amanda and Christina Staskewich, brother William Staskewich Jr., wife Marian, and children Terry, Suzie, Ruth and Jill. Ray loved to play golf, watch sports, spend time with his family and talk about his time in the service and as a teacher. His laugh and kind-hearted nature will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Ray will be cremated and a service will be provided from Peterson Funeral home, N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan IL. Please call 847-623-0495. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Captain James A.
