Thaddeus V. Killian Obituary (1922

Thaddeus “Ted” V. Killian, 94, of Waukegan, passed away peacefully at Condell Medical Center on Friday, June 9, 2017. Ted was born in 1922 in North Chicago, IL. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps before he came back to Waukegan to work for Johns Manville. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Rose Valencic in 1947 in Waukegan at Mother of God Church. He was an active member of the American-Croatian Waukegan Tamburitzans , U.S. Steelworkers and Queen of Peace Church. He retired from U.S. Steel in 1979 when the plant closed. Ted was a dedicated and hard working husband, father, grandfather, great-grandpa, uncle and brother. He spent his entire life living independently. He especially enjoyed dancing, listening to music, golfing, working on home improvement and woodworking projects and spending time with family. He is survived by his children Ted (Gerrine) Killian of Ogden, UT and Diane Cobb of Waukegan, IL, his grandchildren Danielle Killian, Michael Killian, Jaime (Kris Sturgell) Rukstales, Julie Hughes, Jennifer (Rick) Bentley, Bryan (Nicole) Cobb, his great-grandchildren Charlie Hughes, Alysen Cobb and Baby-to-be Bentley, brothers Walter Killian, Leo (Dolores) Killian and sister-in-law Helen Killian and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He especially appreciated the loving care of his family, the Haroian family, and caregivers Linda Ridley and Betty Wiley. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Killian, his wife Rose of almost 60 years who died in 2007, his son-in-law Dennis Cobb, his siblings Steffie (Al) Swirski, Frank (Mary) Killian, John Killian, Lillian (Lester) Curry, Chester (Zenia) Killian and niece Kathy Kudra and nephew Kevin Killian. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Petersen and Patch Funeral Home 408 N Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace, 910 14th Street, North Chicago, IL with visitation from 9-10:00am. Father Julio will officiate. Final resting place will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
